Geometric Archipelago:Gangs of Octagon Island/Chapter 17
Chapter Seventeen: How to Bully a Young Priest
<mainstreet> ---BEGIN SESSION---
<mainstreet> Ascii manages to finish Kanzel's "costume" and gets it on her.
Kanzel takes off the disguise hat and shoves it into her bag, her hair returning pink. "How do I look?"
Kanzel shoves her swords further into her costume
<mainstreet> Kanzel looks like a Hextorian cleric. Ish. Mmmm... they won't look particularly close, I hope? She's not exactly the reverent type... or the evil type... but it should work if no one gets a substantially long look.
<Brellius> "I think it'll work."
<Kanzel> "I hope so. I can't take all of them at once."
<Capn_Ascii> "Hmm. She needs to look more evil."
<Capn_Ascii> "We should dye her hair black, maybe put some blood-red highlights in it."
<Capn_Ascii> "And try to scowl more."
<Kanzel> "I prefer purple highlights on black hair.. But why do we need to dye it at all? Can't we just get a wig?"
<Capn_Ascii> "A wig can come off, and then you'll be stuck explaining why you're wearing a wig over a full head of hair."
<Capn_Ascii> "Normally I'd suggest just using the hat, but they're looking for magical subterfuge now."
<Capn_Ascii> "Trust me, dying is safer. Plus you can dye it back to pink later."
<Kanzel> "I don't think dying it will matter. Besides them bringing it up is a chance for me to be evil."
<Capn_Ascii> "Look, normally I wouldn't care, but...well...it's *pink*. Pink is *not* the first choice of color for a cleric of the god of war."
<Capn_Ascii> "We don't want to give them anything that might raise suspicion even a little bit."
<Brellius> "Why not? It's sort of close to the color of blood."
<Kanzel> "Maybe that's the point. Not everyone would be okay with a evil-aligned cleric traveling -alone-"
<Capn_Ascii> "Why not? Clerics travel alone all the time, especially evil ones. They tend to be fugitives, after all."
<Capn_Ascii> "Which is exactly why they wouldn't dye their hair neon pink and draw attention to themselves."
<Kanzel> "Just leave my hair out of this. We'll get a wig, and I'll put my hood up over it. It'll keep it in place."
<Capn_Ascii> "...fine. It's your ass, after all."
<Capn_Ascii> "Alright. We need an evil-looking wig, and something to talk to each other. Who's running to the market?"
<Brellius> "I already have some money. I'll go get the stuff."
Kanzel nods. "Get me a short black wig. Something that doesn't look that fake." She tosses him some gold.
<Capn_Ascii> "Uh. Wouldn't it need to be long, to cover your hair?"
<Kanzel> "My hair is already tied back, and it just needs to cover my bangs, really."
<Capn_Ascii> "Okay, fine. Brellius, get moving."
<Brellius> "So, a short black wig and two communication items. Probably rings." Brellius sets off for the market
<mainstreet> ----SCREEEEEEE---FAST FORWARD---PURCHASES MADE---FAST FORWARD---SCREEEEEEEE----
<mainstreet> Brellius returns, rings and wig in hand.\
Kanzel takes the wig and looks for a mirror.
Kanzel gets it to look presentable, and puts her hood up over it. "Okay, what else?"
<Brellius> "Don't forget one of the rings."
<Capn_Ascii> "And try to scowl more."
Kanzel takes one and puts it on, taking off her featherfalling ring and shoving it in her bag. "What's the command word?"
<Kanzel> "Uh.. Okay."
<Brellius> "I'm not the one who designed these rings..."
<Kanzel> "I know, it's just such a random word, is all."
<Kanzel> "Okay, are we ready for this?"
<Capn_Ascii> "The question is, are *you* ready?" Ascii takes the other comm ring and tries it out by stepping into his bathroom and closing the door before trying to talk to her.
<Capn_Ascii> "Ground Control to Major Tom. Come in, Major Tom."
<Kanzel> "I can hear you. Can you hear me?"
<Capn_Ascii> "No." Ascii grins...Brellius would be proud."
<Capn_Ascii> "Okay, yeah, I can hear you. Are you ready for this? If things go south, even with the rings it might take us time to get to your location. I'll try and be as fast as possible, though."
<Kanzel> "Just hang out someplace outside. I'll head in and warn you when they have guards posted, because they most likely will, then just hang out around the corner from there."
<Capn_Ascii> "I think I know just the place." Ascii recalls the closet they passed during their flight earlier.
<Kanzel> "Right. I don't remember a closet. But just hide somewhere inocuous."
<Capn_Ascii> Ascii re-emerges from the bathroom feeling worried and anxious - a feeling not wholly unfamiliar to him. "Alright, guys, let's do this. This is our last chance short of outright conflict - which I don't relish - so try not to screw up this time, Kan."
<Kanzel> "That trap was not my fault. It was well set-up. I'm just lucky to have dodged it in time."
<Kanzel> "Anyway. Lets go. Don't follow too close."
Kanzel opens the door, and looks around before heading down the hallway toward the shrine.
Capn_Ascii follows, but not too closely.
Brellius tags along a fair distance behind
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You arrive in the shrine. You see three guards standing at the door. Three people are praying in front of the statue, and two people are standing, one on either side of the altar.
Capn_Ascii opens the closet, to see if it's a good hiding place.
<mainstreet> One of the guards gives you a quick bow, but looks at you a little strangely.
<mainstreet> Ascii: It's a janitor's closet. Mop, broom, some bottles of "cleaning solution", rubber gloves, a few other odds and ends.
<Capn_Ascii> "Ah, feels like home. C'mon, Brell."
Kanzel eyes the guards but passes them without a word or awknowledgement.
<Brellius> "What if someone needs to clean something?
Capn_Ascii waits for Brellius to enter the closet, then closes and locks it. "If anyone tries to come in, put a bucket over your head and pretend you aren't here."
Kanzel approaches the altar and begins to mimic the praying of the other clerics.
Brellius keeps an ear out for anyone who approaches the closet
<mainstreet> Kanzel: Mimicry established! Now what?
Kanzel peeks out of the corner of her eye, eyeing the other people in the room, looking for rank insignias especially.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: The prayers all seem to be of a lower rank than you. So does the person standing on the left. However, the person on the right... is apparently your equal. And he has ointment on his eyes.
<mainstreet> You recognize one of the prayers as Leo. Otherwise, no one here is known to you.
Kanzel gets to what she feels is an appropriate ammount of time spent praying and gets up slowly. She then goes over and introduces herself to the one of equal rank to her. "You there. Are you the leader of this shrine?"
<mainstreet> "I'm in charge of the current security detail, yes," the man replies, respectively. "If you require assistance of some sort, make one of them help you," he indicates the people kneeling.
<Kanzel> "Security detail? Who would dare assault one of our shrines?"
<mainstreet> "That's a very good question. Someone was invisibly stealing a lot of stuff. They cleaned our shrine out of just about everything. And they almost got into our Masters' private chambers. We're working on replacing stuff... but until further notice, we're on high alert. Someone capable of seeing in the Shrine at all times. Office sealed except by invitation only."
Kanzel shakes her head. "What a fool..." she turns to the one she knew from before. "You there. I require lodging for the rest of the week. Take me to the sleeping quarters."
<mainstreet> Leo gets up in a hurry, a look of panic flashing across his face. After a minute... "Yes, Mistress," he comments, looking around briefly, and turning around, leading the way out of the shrine.
<mainstreet> After a while of walking, you start to realize that Leo is walking you to... the Records Office. You aren't there yet, but... he's definitely heading there.
<Kanzel> "Why would the sleeping quarters be so far away from the shrine?"
<mainstreet> "Dedicated sleeping quarters for highest ranking officials, Mistress. I'm taking you to place to acquire your own."
<mainstreet> He continues walking.
<mainstreet> You two reach the door of the Records Office.
Kanzel scowls. "You expect me to sleep with the rabble? I demand a room in the Hextor area. With thieves running about, I'm not going to allow being unprotected while I'm traveling."*
<mainstreet> "I'm sorry, Mistress, but there's simply no room... I don't think I can do anything about it..."
Kanzel scowls further "Useless. If you are unable to do anything about it, then take me to your superior immediately. Perhaps they can do something about it. And about you."
<mainstreet> Leo visibly gulps. "I... I will attempt to find... Yes Mistress..." Leo turns the other way, make a few turns... you being the walk towards the (primary) Hextorian Quarters.
<mainstreet> A few turns and passes later, including past a certain closet, you eventually reach the outer door that you are so familiar with.
<mainstreet> ---END SESSION---
